Wike Vows to Resign if NDDC Report Clears Amaechi

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has challenged the Federal Government to make public the long-awaited forensic audit report on the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), claiming it was deliberately withheld to shield individuals allegedly involved in corrupt practices.

Speaking on Politics Today, a Channels Television programme aired on Friday, Wike called on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to release the document, which was commissioned to probe the commission’s financial dealings and project execution from its creation in 2001 to August 2019.

“Let President Bola Ahmed Tinubu do us a favour and release the report of the forensic audit of the NDDC. Mr President should help Nigerians,” Wike urged.

The audit was ordered by the Federal Government to expose misappropriation of funds, failed contracts, and other irregularities within the NDDC over nearly two decades.

In a bold declaration, the FCT minister offered to vacate his office if the findings do not validate his claims. “If they release it, I will resign as FCT minister,” he said. “Let them release the document. If what I am saying is not in the document, I will resign as the minister of FCT. I don’t worship the office.”

Wike’s comments come a day after former Minister of Transportation and ex-Rivers State Governor, Rotimi Amaechi, reportedly questioned Wike’s source of wealth. Reacting, Wike dismissed the allegations and launched a scathing attack on his predecessor.

“I won’t say I was too rich like the Dangotes, but I didn’t have a small background. His (Amaechi’s) anger is that he saw me using a Rolls-Royce — and so what? It was not given to me by a contractor. A contractor gave him and that as a bribe,” Wike alleged.

“He took from a contractor, but I will not do that. He (Amaechi) is one of the most corrupt people,” he declared.

Wike further cast doubts on Amaechi’s academic background, alleging that the former minister never completed his studies.

“Amaechi went to Rivers State University, but he couldn’t pass,” Wike claimed.

The renewed exchange between the two former governors marks another chapter in their long-running political feud, now spilling over into accusations of corruption, academic fraud, and abuse of office.
