Ukraine ready to sign minerals deal with US – Zelensky

Ukraine is prepared to sign a minerals agreement with the United States, President Volodymyr Zelensky has stated, following a landmark summit in London.

“The agreement that’s on the table will be signed if the parties are ready,” Zelensky said during a late-night briefing with British journalists, as reported by the BBC.

The proposed deal, which aimed to facilitate Ukraine’s post-war recovery by allowing joint exploitation of its vast mineral resources, was expected to be signed during Zelensky’s visit to Washington on Friday. However, negotiations collapsed following a tense Oval Office meeting with U.S. President Donald Trump.

European leaders pledge support

After the failed talks, Ukraine’s allies reaffirmed their support for Zelensky during a summit hosted by UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Sunday. European leaders pledged to increase defence spending and explore options for securing a potential truce.

French President Emmanuel Macron, speaking in an interview, said France and Britain were considering a proposal for a one-month partial ceasefire with Russia.

The developments come as Ukraine seeks diplomatic and economic support to bolster its recovery efforts amid the ongoing conflict.
