Three Police Officers Killed in Kebbi Bandit Attack

Suspected Lakurawa bandits launched a deadly ambush on the Zogirma–Tilli Road in Bunza Local Government Area of Kebbi State, targeting commuters in what security officials believe was an attempted kidnapping operation.
Responding swiftly to the report, the Divisional Police Officer in Zogirma mobilised a team of officers to the scene, with additional support from operatives of the No. 36 Police Mobile Force Squadron in Birnin Kebbi. A gun battle quickly ensued between the security forces and the attackers.
Tragically, three police officers lost their lives in the fierce exchange. The incident was confirmed in a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer of Kebbi State, Nafiu Abubakar, who also disclosed that several of the assailants were neutralised during the confrontation.
In reaction to the loss, the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, Bello Sani, praised the courage, resilience, and sacrifice of the fallen officers who died in the line of duty.
Governor Nasir Idris also confirmed the incident and the fatalities. He subsequently announced the postponement of a scheduled stakeholders’ meeting of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Birnin Kebbi in honour of the deceased officers.
Meanwhile, in a separate security operation, troops of the Nigerian Army’s 223 Light Battalion, Zuru, successfully repelled a large-scale attack on Ribah town in the Danko Wasagu Local Government Area.
The assault, which took place on Wednesday, involved more than 400 heavily armed bandits who attempted to storm the town in a coordinated raid.
A prolonged and intense firefight followed, with many of the attackers neutralised by the army. While some of the gunmen managed to evacuate the bodies of their fallen comrades, others were left behind, along with weapons recovered by the troops.
Confirming the development, Alhaji AbdulRahman Zagga, Director of Security in the Kebbi State Cabinet Office, commended the Nigerian Army for its bravery and effective response.
He noted that although the bandits presented a significant threat due to their numbers and firepower, the professionalism and combat readiness of the soldiers turned the tide in favour of the military.
