Peter Obi Urges Urgent Reforms After JAMB Glitch Affects Nearly 380,000 Candidates

Former presidential candidate and Labour Party leader, Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the recent technical JAMB Glitch that disrupted the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) results, affecting nearly 380,000 candidates.
In a statement shared via social media titled “Let’s Not Make Glitches Become a National Crisis,” Obi praised the transparency of JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, but warned of the broader implications of such failures in critical national institutions.
Obi lauded Prof. Oloyede’s public acknowledgment of the issue and his expression of remorse, describing it as a rare but commendable act of accountability in Nigeria’s public service. However, he emphasized that the incident exposes a deeper institutional fragility that must be urgently addressed.
“The emotional and psychological toll on students, and even parents—some of whom have reportedly suffered severe trauma or even death—underscores the magnitude of what is at stake,” Obi stated. “The integrity of our examination systems and the trust in public institutions must never be compromised.”
He urged JAMB and similar agencies to implement strict quality assurance frameworks, ensure rigorous testing of their technical infrastructure, and maintain transparent communication with the public.
Obi concluded with a powerful call to action: “There must be no room for further glitches—not in JAMB, not in any arm of government. The cost of repeated failure is simply too high. A new Nigeria is POssible.”
