OG Maco Dead at 32 After Gunshot Incident and Coma
OG Maco, the rapper who gained fame with his 2014 viral hit U Guessed It, has died at the age of 32. According to TMZ, he passed away on Thursday night at a hospital in Los Angeles, surrounded by family.
Maco, whose real name was Benedict Chiajulam Ihesiba Jr., had been in a coma since December 12 after suffering what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head. Emergency responders were called to his home that morning when a neighbor heard a gunshot. Police found Maco with a firearm nearby, and he was rushed to the hospital for surgery.
Despite doctors’ efforts, his condition worsened over time. Sources say the medical team struggled to perform a complete brain scan, which might have helped in treating his injuries.
Later, Maco’s family shared a heartfelt message on his Instagram, describing him as a symbol of resilience and creativity. They expressed gratitude for the love and support he received throughout his life and asked fans to continue celebrating his legacy.
“While we grieve this immense loss, we also celebrate the extraordinary life he lived one that will continue to inspire and uplift others,” the statement read. “Maco’s influence, both as an artist and as a person, will remain forever etched in our hearts.”
Born in College Park, Georgia, Maco rose to fame with U Guessed It, a high-energy anthem that became a cultural moment in 2014. The song’s success earned him a record deal with Quality Control Music, the Atlanta-based label that also signed Migos, Lil Yachty, and Lil Baby.
In 2015, he was honored as part of XXL Magazine’s Freshman Class, recognizing rising stars in hip-hop. However, Maco’s career was later impacted by personal and health challenges.
In 2016, he survived a serious car accident that left him with multiple skull fractures and a cracked vertebra. Three years later, he battled necrotizing fasciitis, a rare flesh-eating bacteria, which left disfiguring scars on his face. Maco openly shared his struggles with these injuries and the depression that followed.
