FG To Sell 753 Seized Emefiele Properties To Low- And Middle-Income Nigerians

The Federal Government has announced plans to sell 753 housing units seized from former Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor, Godwin Emefiele.

The expansive estate, located in Guzape, Abuja, covers over 150,000 square metres and is considered the largest single asset recovery by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) since its inception. A court had ordered the forfeiture of the properties in December 2024.

Minister of Housing and Urban Development, Ahmed Dangiwa, said the government will assess and complete the structures before offering them for sale to Nigerians, particularly low- and middle-income earners, through the Renewed Hope Housing Portal.

EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede, who led a joint inspection of the property, described the move as part of ongoing efforts to ensure that looted public assets are returned to serve the people.

Meanwhile, Emefiele has filed a legal challenge at an FCT High Court, arguing that the EFCC failed to inform him of the forfeiture proceedings, despite ongoing engagements over other matters.

The government, however, maintains that the sale will go ahead in line with its housing reforms and anti-corruption goals.
