Media mogul and publisher of Ovation International, Dele Momodu, has fired back at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over comments made during a recent television appearance, describing the minister’s conduct as reckless and damaging to democratic values.

Reacting to Wike’s interview on Politics Today, aired Friday night on Channels Television, Momodu accused the FCT minister of launching personal attacks and using his office to malign critics.

“He was obviously soaked in some esoteric spirits as he went on full rampage to disparage everyone opposed to his despicable assault on our hard-earned democracy,” Momodu said in a statement.

The confrontation between the two men follows Wike’s remarks during the interview, where he allegedly took aim at various political figures and journalists. Momodu said he has now requested a right of reply from Channels Television to publicly address what he described as Wike’s “unrestrained outburst.”

“I have requested for a right of reply from Channels TV next Monday to show Nigerians, and President Bola Tinubu in particular, the type of loose cannon he has unleashed on hapless citizens in the name of politics,” he said.

Momodu also pushed back against a claim Wike made concerning past hospitality, dismissing it as trivial and misleading. According to him, any interaction they had in the past was in good faith, including efforts to enhance Wike’s public image through media exposure and personal grooming advice.

“He invited me regularly, first thing in the morning, for photo-ops, in order to boost his image,” he said, adding that he even introduced the minister to luxury items such as exclusive champagnes and perfumes.

Momodu recalled that their relationship began after he granted Wike a right of reply following an interview with IPOB leader Nnamdi Kanu. Following that, he said Wike invited his magazine team to Port Harcourt to document his achievements.

“Too much money has now turned him into a rude kid,” Momodu added, noting that their relationship changed over time.

As of press time, Wike has not responded to the comments.
