2024 NYSC Zonal Preliminaries: Festive Kick-Off

The eagerly anticipated NYSC Sports and Cultural Festival Zonal Preliminaries commenced across the nation, spanning the five zones of the federation, with the exception of the South-East region.
NYSC Lagos State chapter found itself in the Southwest zone, with activities centered at the NYSC orientation camp in Sagamu, Ogun State.
Joining Lagos in the competition were teams from Kwara, Ekiti, Osun, Ondo, and Oyo States.
The opening ceremony, though slightly delayed due to official engagements of the host State Coordinator, Mrs. Olayinka D. Nasamu began around 2:00 PM with a colorful procession featuring representatives from the participating states.
Mrs. Nasamu formally declared the event open following her welcome address. Distinguished guests included the representative of the South-West Area Director, Assistant Director Mr. Yusuf of the CDS department, and various other NYSC officials.
In the first football match of the day, Kwara State’s team secured victory against Ondo State with a narrow 1-goal lead.
Meanwhile, in the volleyball arena, Lagos triumphed over Ondo with a 2-nil win.
The cultural aspect of the festival dazzled spectators as dance troupes from all participating states showcased their talents to the delight of judges and onlookers.
Comedians added to the jovial atmosphere, entertaining the audience with their witty performances.
Tomorrow promises even more excitement as drama troupes take the stage to compete, marking another thrilling chapter in this year’s NYSC Sports and Cultural Festival Zonal Preliminaries.
