Wike Says Peter Obi Can Never Be President, Mocks Coalition Plans for 2027

Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, has taken a swipe at former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, declaring that Obi will never become Nigeria’s president.

Wike made the comments in a video shared online on Sunday, which quickly went viral after being posted by X user @ChuksEricE. He was reacting to recent moves by opposition politicians to form a coalition aimed at defeating the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general election.

Taking aim at the proposed alliance, Wike first criticised former Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola, saying he had no moral right to speak on national issues given his own performance in office.

“You were Minister of Interior, but under you, Nigerians waited months and even years to get international passports. And now you want to rescue Nigeria?” Wike asked.

Turning his attention to Peter Obi, the former Rivers State governor dismissed any hope of Obi becoming president, citing his performance during his time as governor of Anambra State.

“For eight years, he was governor. Not one local government election. He ran all the LGs by himself,” Wike said.

He also questioned Obi’s history of switching political parties over the years.

“In 1999, you were in one party. In 2006, another party. By 2014, you moved again. In 2019, you returned to yet another party. Now in 2025, you’re changing again—to rescue who?” Wike asked rhetorically.

He concluded by saying many supporters backing Obi are blindly following someone they don’t truly understand.

“Let’s tell ourselves the truth. Some of you are fighting for someone you don’t even know,” he added.

Wike’s remarks have triggered widespread reactions on social media, sparking intense debates among Nigerians over the future of the opposition and the political viability of Peter Obi ahead of 2027.
