Wike Pulls Out Of PDP Peace Deal, Accuses Makinde And Others Of Betrayal

The internal crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a fresh twist as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, announced his decision to withdraw from all previously reached agreements aimed at resolving the party’s leadership disputes.
In a detailed statement released on Sunday, Wike accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of being the “architect” of the PDP’s lingering troubles, alleging persistent breaches of trust, dishonesty, and violations of mutual agreements by key stakeholders within the party.
“Since after the 2023 general election, the PDP has been swinging from one crisis to another due to dishonesty and lack of trust among its leaders,” Wike said.
According to the former Rivers State governor, a series of meetings were held to stabilize the party, including a gathering of the G5 governors in Lagos and an expanded meeting in Abuja hosted by former Senate President Bukola Saraki. Wike revealed that tensions ran high during the Abuja meeting, particularly over the conduct of Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed and the role he allegedly plays in breaching agreements under the cover of his position as Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum.
The meetings, he said, resulted in key resolutions, including the recognition of Senator Samuel Anyanwu as the party’s legitimate National Secretary, withdrawal of all court cases relating to Rivers State, and the rejection of moves to declare a state of emergency in any PDP-controlled state.
However, Wike lamented that the agreements were violated even before implementation began. He accused Makinde and Enugu State Governor Peter Mba of secretly orchestrating meetings to challenge the position of Anyanwu and push for Ude Okoye as National Secretary, threatening to pull the South-East out of the PDP if their demands were not met.
He further alleged that letters were fraudulently issued from the party’s national secretariat undermining Anyanwu’s authority, including one signed by the Deputy National Secretary inviting INEC to a zonal congress in Jos. According to Wike, the congress was aborted after INEC refused to attend due to the improper authorization of the invitation letter.
“These actions are distasteful, provocative, and in clear violation of the gentleman’s agreement we reached,” Wike fumed.
He emphasized that his long-standing loyalty to the PDP since 1998 and his role in helping many governors win their elections had not been matched with mutual respect. Wike stressed that despite not making personal demands from those he supported, the betrayal he has experienced has now pushed him to a breaking point.
“I have firmly decided to pull out of all agreements hitherto reached. I will fight on until justice is attained,” Wike declared.
