A Trigger-happy Catholic priest in Amaimo, Ikeduru Local Government Area of Imo State, Rev. Father Joseph Enyinnaya allegedly shot and killed a teenager on January 1, 2025, for setting off fireworks near a church.
The incident reportedly occurred during the New Year crossover Mass when the teenager ignited knockouts outside the church premises. The priest, , confronted the boy, leading to an altercation that tragically escalated.
Eyewitnesses claimed the boy was outside the church when his fireworks disrupted the solemn atmosphere, sparking the priest’s reaction. The priest picked up a firearm and fatally shot him.
Police spokesperson Henry Okoye confirmed the arrest of the priest and the recovery of the boy’s body which has been deposited at the the Aka Ikeduru mortuary for further investigations.
The incident has sparked a lot of reactions among the people, with many questioning the Priest’s possession of a fire arm. Questions have been raised about the license of the arm and if clergy men are allowed to own or use firearms under any circumstance.
