Ubi Franklin Mourns Sister’s Death, Says She Was the Backbone Behind His Success

Music executive and entrepreneur Ubi Franklin is mourning the painful loss of his sister, who passed away after a battle with cancer.

In an emotional tribute shared on social media, Ubi described her as “one of the most precious gifts life ever handed to me,” adding that her death has left a deep scar in his heart.

“Today, death visited me and took one of the most precious gifts life ever gave me—my sister. The one who birthed the Ubi Franklin you all know today. The one who opened my eyes to what life truly is. One of the kindest souls I’ve ever known, and I’m so blessed to call her my sister,” he wrote.

Recalling their shared past, he narrated how she helped shape his journey after the death of their father in 2004. Then a law student at Madonna University, Ubi moved in with her and her husband in Abuja, and during a trip to Lagos in 2005, his life changed forever.

“That trip was the beginning of everything. My career started there. I became my elder brother’s PA, but she never stopped calling me hers. She would always say, ‘Before anyone else, you were my PA.’ Even till her last days, she reminded me.”

Ubi said he spent April through July by her side. On July 3rd, just before flying to England, he visited her in her room to say goodbye, believing she would be waiting for him when he returned. But days later, she left Lagos for Abuja to spend time with her family — a decision that turned out to be her final journey.

“Man plans, but God disposes,” he wrote.

He revealed that on July 12, while he was airborne en route to Abuja after learning she had been moved to the ICU, she passed away.

“I landed in Abuja at 4:20 a.m., but it wasn’t until 4 p.m. that I was told she had died hours earlier.”

Ubi described the loss as one of the most painful experiences of his life. “This hurts deeply. It has left a scar in my heart. But I’m thankful. Thankful I got to know her, walk with her, and be shaped by her. She was my backbone, my rock, my biggest cheerleader.”

He concluded with heartfelt words of love and goodbye:
“I will forever love you. And I know you’re in a better place. 💔🕊️”
