President Bola Tinubu has forwarded a N1.48 trillion budget proposal for Rivers State to the National Assembly, stepping in following the Supreme Court’s nullification of the state’s earlier budget.

This development comes after the federal government declared a state of emergency in Rivers on March 18, 2025, suspending Governor Siminalayi Fubara, his deputy, and the House of Assembly. Retired Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas was appointed as the state’s Sole Administrator.

The proposed 2025 budget earmarks N324 billion for infrastructure, N166 billion for health, N75.6 billion for education, and N31.4 billion for agriculture. It also includes a N5 billion provision for the free distribution of drugs.

President Tinubu has urged the National Assembly to treat the proposal with urgency to ensure uninterrupted governance and development in the state.
