Tinubu Heads to Ijebu-Ode for Late Awujale’s Eighth-Day Prayer

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has departed Abuja for Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, where he is expected to attend the eighth-day prayer in honour of the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona.

The confirmation came on Sunday through a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Dada Olusegun, Special Assistant to the President on Social Media.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has left Abuja for Ijebu-Ode to attend the eighth-day prayer ceremony for the late Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona,” he wrote.

Oba Adetona, a deeply respected traditional ruler, died on July 13 at the age of 91 and was buried a day later in accordance with Islamic rites.

His passing brought an end to a remarkable reign that spanned 65 years, making him one of the longest-serving monarchs in Nigeria’s history.

As preparations peak for the prayer event, security has been reinforced throughout Ijebu-Ode, especially around strategic locations such as the Awujale’s Palace, his Igbeba residence, and the Dipo Dina International Stadium—where the event will take place.

The prayer ceremony is expected to draw notable dignitaries, including Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun and other high-ranking officials.
