Tinubu Govt Accused Of Exploiting Buhari’s Death For Political Gains — ADC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused President Bola Tinubu’s administration of exploiting the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari to polish its public image.
In a statement issued by its interim national publicity secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party said the Tinubu-led government is attempting to “whitewash its battered image,” especially among Northern voters and Buhari loyalists, by using the former president’s passing for political advantage.
The ADC specifically criticized the special Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting held in Buhari’s honour, describing it as an “opportunistic PR stunt” and questioned the decision to include the late president’s grieving son, Yusuf Buhari, in the proceedings.
“It is troubling that Mr. Yusuf Buhari, a private citizen and grieving son, was dragged into the political theatre of a FEC meeting just days after burying his father,” the statement read.
Abdullahi accused the Tinubu administration of hypocrisy, noting that for over a year it blamed Buhari for Nigeria’s economic troubles, labeling his government fiscally reckless and responsible for a broken economy.
“But now that it suits their political agenda, they seek to recast themselves as defenders of Buhari’s legacy, pretending to give him in death the honour they denied him in life,” the party said.
The ADC urged Nigerians to be vigilant, warning that the ruling party is attempting to manipulate national sentiment through calculated symbolism and emotional spectacle.
