President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, for the 17th BRICS Summit, which is set to take place from July 6 to 7, 2025.

Tinubu, who was invited by Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, was received at Galeão International Airport by a delegation of Nigerian officials, including Governors Dapo Abiodun of Ogun, Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta, and Mohammed Umar Bago of Niger State.

His visit to Brazil follows a four-day state visit to Saint Lucia, where he signed a series of bilateral agreements aimed at deepening diplomatic and economic cooperation with the Caribbean nation.

The BRICS Summit, themed “Strengthening Global South Cooperation for More Inclusive and Sustainable Governance,” will focus on issues such as sustainable development, fairer global financial systems, and increased trade partnerships.

President Tinubu is scheduled to hold high-level engagements with fellow BRICS leaders and other strategic partners as Nigeria seeks to strengthen its voice in global South conversations.

Nigeria will participate alongside African BRICS members like South Africa, Egypt, and Ethiopia, as well as countries such as Indonesia, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
