Telcom Tarrifs will Rise but not by 100% – Bosun Tijani
The Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, has revealed that telecommunication tariffs in Nigeria will soon increase but not by the 100% proposed by Telecom operators.
He disclosed this, during an interview with journalists on Wednesday, 8th of January, 2025. The minister explained that the primary goal is to ensure a better telecommunications infrastructure while protecting the interest of the people.
“The exact percentage of the tariff increase has not been finalized as a comprehensive review of the current tariff structure is underway. This review will involve consultations with stakeholders, including telecommunication companies, consumer groups, and industry experts.” He said
The minister acknowledged the concerns of consumers regarding potential price hikes. He assured the public that the government is committed to ensuring a fair and balanced approach to tariff adjustments.
The minister concluded by stating that the government will continue to prioritize the development of a robust and inclusive digital economy in Nigeria. This includes improving access to affordable and high-quality telecommunications services for all citizens.
