Social Media Critic Urges Rebranding of Ebonyi Football Club
A social media critic, Nwoba Chika Nwoba, has sparked a debate on the naming of the Ebonyi State-owned football club.
In a recent Facebook post, Nwoba argued that the current name, which bears the identity of only one clan, may be perceived as divisive and exclusionary.
According to Nwoba, “Using only the political identity of one of the clans to name a concept owned by the entire state… is divisive and it’ll tell on the state and the future of the club.”
Nwoba emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating, “Ebonyi doesn’t belong to one clan. It’s an amalgam of four distinct cultural clans.”
He suggested alternative names that promote unity and inclusivity, such as “Ebonyi United FC” or “Salt of the Nation FC,” which is the state’s pseudonym.
