Saudi Arabia’s ‘Sleeping Prince’ Al-Waleed Bin Khalid Dies After 19 Years In Coma

Prince Al-Waleed bin Khalid bin Talal Al Saud, widely known as Saudi Arabia’s “Sleeping Prince,” has passed away at the age of 36 after spending nearly 20 years in a coma.
He slipped into a coma in 2005 following a severe car accident in London while attending military college. Despite being in a vegetative state for almost two decades, his family continued to hope for his recovery, especially after minor movements in recent years, such as a finger twitch in 2020.
His father, Prince Khalid bin Talal, who consistently refused to take him off life support, confirmed his death on Saturday at King Abdulaziz Medical City in Riyadh. Funeral prayers will be held on Sunday at the Imam Turki bin Abdullah Mosque in the Saudi capital.
Prince Al-Waleed, a nephew of billionaire investor Prince Alwaleed bin Talal, had become a symbol of hope and unwavering family devotion across the kingdom. His story captured the attention of many Saudis who followed his condition closely for years.
