Sanwo-Olu Urges Corps Members To Embrace Service As Pathway For National Development

Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-olu has called on corps members deployed to the Centre of Excellence for the 2024 Batch B stream II orientation course.
He urged them to see their service year as a vital opportunity. It is a chance to contribute to the development of their host communities and the nation at large.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of the orientation exercise held at Iyana Ipaja Camp, the Governor who was represented by the commissioner for Youth and Sports development,Hon Mobolaji Ogunlende emphasized the importance of service in building national unity and fostering socio-economic growth.
He encouraged corps members to approach their service year with dedication and a sense of responsibility.
He noted that the NYSC program provides a unique platform for young Nigerians to impact society positively, regardless of their postings.
“Wherever you are posted, see it as an opportunity to contribute to the socio-economic and political development of your host State. Your efforts will help build a stronger, more united Nigeria,” he stated.
His Excellency also highlighted the relevance of the skills acquisition training provided during the orientation course, urging corps members to take advantage of these opportunities to enhance their future prospects.
“The skills you have learnt here can open doors for you, not just in terms of employment but also for funding opportunities. Master these skills, as they will serve you well beyond your service year,” he advised.
The Governor further underscored the role of NYSC in promoting unity among Nigerians from diverse backgrounds.
He pointed out that the service year is an avenue for corps members to learn, grow, and foster relationships that could last a lifetime. “This program brings together young Nigerians from all over the Nation, and through it, you can build lifelong connections, discover new passions and contribute meaningfully to the nation,” he added.
The ceremony,which featured a colourful Parade by Corps members was also attended by His Excellency, the Governor of Oyo State,Engr Seyi Makinde who shared his personal NYSC experience with the corps members .He encouraged them to approach their service year with discipline and commitment, viewing it as a period of personal growth and nation-building.
Commendation letters were presented to outstanding corps members and camp officials, among who were Olawoyin Waliu Adewale (LA/24B/5890) as Best Platoon Leader and Eze Precious Onyenaturuchi (LA/24B/5611) as Overall Parade Commander.
