Tinubu Orders VP Shettima to Accompany Buhari’s Body Back to Nigeria

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, who passed away in London today, Sunday, July 13, 2025, at approximately 4:30 p.m., following a prolonged illness.

In a call to Mrs. Aisha Buhari, the widow of the late President, President Tinubu expressed his heartfelt condolences and offered prayers for the family.

As a mark of honor, President Tinubu has directed Vice President Kashim Shettima to travel immediately to the United Kingdom to accompany the body of the late President back to Nigeria.

President Muhammadu Buhari was elected Nigeria’s President in 2015 and re-elected in 2019. He previously served as the country’s military Head of State from January 1984 to August 1985.

In tribute to the late leader, President Tinubu has ordered that all national flags be flown at half-mast across the country.
