Minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu, has officially declared his intention to contest the 2027 governorship election in Oyo State, pledging to reclaim the state from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and return it to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Adelabu, who was the APC governorship candidate in the 2019 elections, made the announcement on Friday during consultations with party leaders and stakeholders in the Ogbomoso and Oyo zones. The meetings, he said, are part of a broader grassroots engagement strategy to build a strong and united coalition ahead of the next election cycle.

Speaking at the home of APC leader Ayoade Adeseun in Ogbomoso, Adelabu stated:

“I’m here to tell you that I want to contest for governor of Oyo State in 2027. I’m ready to put to test all the experience I’ve gathered from the past two elections.”

He assured party members that the APC would not impose candidates, affirming his readiness to engage in a fair contest.

“I’m up to the task. I want to show them that I can withstand and survive competition and come out victorious,” he added.

Adelabu also called for unity within the APC, appealing to aggrieved members for forgiveness and urging them to rally together to unseat the PDP.

“We should be concerned with how the party will come back to power in 2027. Ogbomoso is very important in this state’s politics. I’m happy to see that all factions here are now united.”

In Oyo town, Adelabu pledged to run an inclusive government if elected, stating that every part of the state would have a voice in governance.

“I will run an all-inclusive government where everybody will be involved and no one will be left behind,” he said. “Oyo zone deserves better treatment because it is symbolic. Oyo is historical, symbolic, and a blessing to the entire state.”

The minister also used the occasion to drum up support for President Bola Tinubu’s potential re-election in 2027, emphasizing the importance of allowing the Yoruba presidency to complete two full terms.

“This is another turn of Yorubas to serve their two terms as President of Nigeria. Nigeria has a lot to benefit if Tinubu is re-elected,” Adelabu declared.
