PDP Governors Vow to Resist Federal Government's Intimidation Tactics

Governors elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have pledged to stand firm against what they describe as intimidation and exclusionary tactics by the Federal Government.

Speaking during the 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the PDP held Tuesday in Abuja, the governors condemned the current administration’s approach, vowing to remain unwavering in their commitment to good governance and democratic values.

Chairman of the PDP Governors’ Forum and Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, addressed the meeting, outlining the mounting challenges confronting the party. He alleged that the administration of President Bola Tinubu has created an atmosphere of political tension marked by obstacles, subtle provocations, and shifting alliances.

Governor Mohammed noted that the PDP has weathered a wave of defections and ongoing coalition negotiations, which have impacted the party’s internal dynamics. Nevertheless, he emphasized that the party’s cohesion remains intact.

“Despite these pressures, our members remain steadfast and unwavering,” he said. “There is no form of intimidation or persuasion that we, as elected governors and party members, have not encountered. Yet, we remain resolute in our commitment.”

He contrasted the PDP’s internal unity with the fragmentation seen in other political parties.

“While other parties are grappling with internal divisions and factionalism, the PDP stands united,” he asserted.

Governor Mohammed also highlighted the PDP’s consistent efforts to stay visible and engaged with national issues through state-level activities. He referenced recent meetings held in Plateau, Taraba, Oyo, Delta, Akwa Ibom, and Bauchi States, where party leaders have issued communiqués on key governance matters.

“These engagements are not just symbolic; they reflect our resolve to remain active and responsive, despite the pressures around us,” he explained.

He praised the dedication of PDP leaders and members, describing the 99th NEC meeting as a testament to the resilience of democracy and the enduring pursuit of good governance amid national challenges.
