Olomu Kingdom Mourns as Ohworode Uhurhie-Osadjere II Joins Ancestors

The Olomu kingdom in Ughelli South Local Government Area of Delta State has been plunged into mourning following the passing of its revered traditional ruler, His Royal Majesty Uhurhie-Osadjere II.

The solemn announcement was made at the palace in Ovwor-Olomu community, where the Otota of the kingdom, Olorogun Albert Akpomudje (SAN), surrounded by members of the traditional council and the royal family, officially confirmed the monarch’s transition.

His death comes less than two years after he ascended the throne of his ancestors on May 20, 2023.

In accordance with tradition, the announcement was marked by 21 cannon shots and performances by the Ema dancers, signaling the beginning of a period of deep cultural significance and mourning.

“All markets in the kingdom are to be closed, with shops only permitted for partial transactions,” it was declared. Burial and marriage ceremonies have also been suspended throughout the kingdom.

A one-month mourning period has been declared, starting from Saturday, July 12, to August 12, 2025. During this time, traditional chiefs are to honor the late monarch by wearing a mourning band on their left hands and foregoing the customary red Olomu Chieftaincy cap.

The passing of His Royal Majesty Uhurhie-Osadjere II marks the end of a significant era in the Olomu kingdom, as the people prepare to bid farewell to their monarch with honor, reverence, and tradition.
