Wellness Ambassadors Program

The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Lagos State has launched a groundbreaking initiative, unveiling the Wellness Ambassadors program.

This initiative is an offshoot of the Platoons Counsellors Committee and aims to address issues of depression and loneliness among corps members.

The Wellness Ambassadors, consisting of ten corps members selected from each platoon, will work alongside trained counselors to identify individuals in need of emotional support within the camp environment

Their mission is to infuse positivity and support by engaging with a smile and a sense of humor.

“Our motto is ‘Improving Quality of Life,’ and our logo, the smiley icon, encapsulates our commitment to spreading joy and mental well-being,” stated the NYSC Lagos State coordinator.

These ambassadors are entrusted with the task of making at least fifty camp participants smile daily. They will reach out to individuals residing in hostels, platoons, mosques, and churches who may be experiencing feelings of depression or isolation, encouraging them to seek assistance from trained counselors.

The program emphasizes the importance of camaraderie and peer support in fostering a healthy camp environment. By leveraging the enthusiasm and empathy of young volunteers, NYSC aims to create a supportive community where every member feels valued and heard.

The introduction of the Wellness Ambassadors initiative represents a significant step forward in prioritizing mental health within the NYSC framework. It underscores the organization’s commitment to nurturing the holistic well-being of its members beyond their primary service duties.
