NYSC Lagos Braces Up for Federal Bye Election, Deploys Corps Members To 258 Polling Units

As the Surulere Federal Constituency 1 Bye election is scheduled to hold on the 3rd of February, to replace the Representative of the Surulere Federal Constituency 1 at the House of Representatives, who resigned from the House a while ago, the State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, has today attended the Inter-Agency Consultative Committee on Electoral Security meeting conveyed by Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC) at its Sabo Yaba office in Lagos.

The meeting which is meant to brief the members of the committee on the level of preparedness of INEC for the bye election was chaired by Professor Ayobami Salami, the Lagos State INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner.

Professor Salami while addressing the committee, assured the members of the committee that the electoral body would uphold the ideals of the commission to midwife a process devoid controversies. He said “I want to assure all that on our part, we are going to adhere strictly to our guiding principles and bring to bear our core values with a view to ensuring that we midwife a process, devoid of any rancour or acrimony, I hereby seek the full support and collaboration of all the security agencies in the State as well as members of this committee

” Meanwhile, the State Coordinator, NYSC Lagos, Mrs Yetunde Baderinwa, has accentuated on the need for the Resident Electoral Commissioner and members of the Committee, to put to consideration the welfare of the corps members, who would be serving during the bye election. In response, the Resident Electoral Commissioner, Prof. Salami, and members of the committee have assured the State Coordinator that the Electoral body will prioritize the welfare of the corps members, while the security agencies will see to their safety. It is important to state that as against the 2023 general election, fourteen political parties will be participating in the Bye election, to replace Honourable Femi Gbajabiamila, who has since resigned his seat, to serve as the Chief of Staff to the President of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
