Nwazunku Abandons ‘Dying’ PDP for APC, Says Party Has Lost Relevance

A former Speaker of the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and immediate past member of the House of Representatives for Ebonyi/Ohaukwu Federal Constituency, Hon. Chukwuma Nwazunku, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nwazunku announced his defection during a ward meeting of the APC held at Ugwuachara, Echiaba, hosted at the residence of Hon. Amobi Nwofoke, Chairman of the party in the ward.

He was joined by several prominent PDP members, including Hon. Emeka Otozi, the PDP’s 2023 senatorial candidate for Ebonyi North, the PDP Ward Chairman for Echiaba, and a host of political associates who also switched allegiance to the APC.

Welcoming the defectors on behalf of the State APC Chairman, the Chairman of the party in Ebonyi Local Government Area, Chief Patrick Orogbo, commended their decision, describing it as bold and strategic. He assured them of full integration and equal opportunity within the APC, stressing the party’s commitment to internal democracy, fairness, and inclusiveness regardless of past political affiliations.

Also speaking at the event, Hon. Amobi Nwofoke praised the leadership of Governor Francis Nwifuru, crediting his performance over the last two years for significantly weakening the opposition and fostering political unity across Ebonyi State.

In his remarks, Chief Nwazunku stated that although he had remained in the PDP physically, his conviction in the party had long waned due to its dwindling internal cohesion and political relevance. He cited the developmental achievements of Governor Nwifuru and the national leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as key motivations for his defection.

Nwazunku pledged to rally his supporters across the state in support of the APC, vowing to work for the party’s resounding victory in the 2027 general elections.
