The Nigeria Police Force, in collaboration with CLEEN Foundation, has launched the second phase of a specialized training programme for Police Public Relations Officers (PPROs) across the country, focusing on Social and Behavioural Change Communication (SBCC) and Gender-Based Violence (GBV) prevention.

The training, which began on Monday, July 8, 2025, in Ikeja, Lagos State, will run through Thursday, July 10, bringing together PPROs from across the southern region of the country. The first phase was held in Kaduna State from June 24 to 26.

Declaring the event open on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun, was the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, CP Oluhundare Jimoh Moshood.

In his remarks, the IGP described the training as timely and essential, noting that strategic communication plays a critical role in bridging the gap between the police and the public. He stressed the need for spokespersons to be properly equipped to manage public perception, combat misinformation, and foster transparency and accountability within the Force.

“The outcome of this training will empower our officers with the right tools to communicate effectively, inspire behavioural change, and enhance public trust,” Egbetokun said.

Participants will be trained on a wide range of topics, including audience analysis, persuasive messaging, digital media engagement, and behaviour change strategies tailored to Nigeria’s diverse communities.

The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Force’s commitment to citizen-focused policing and continuous capacity development through partnerships and proactive public engagement.

The training is part of ongoing efforts by the Nigeria Police to build a more professional, responsive, and community-friendly institution.
