Nigerian Senate Passes Rivers State 2025 Budget For Second Reading Amid State Of Emergency

On Wednesday, May 28, the Nigerian Senate approved the Rivers State 2025 budget for its second reading.

The budget, amounting to N1.48 trillion (N1,480,662,592,442), was presented by Senate Leader Senator Michael Bamidele Opeyemi before being passed for the next stage.

Opeyemi explained that the Senate has taken over legislative powers for Rivers State due to the ongoing State of Emergency.

Senator Solomon Adeola Olamilekan emphasized the urgency of passing the budget, stating that it was essential for the people of Rivers to experience the government’s presence.

He remarked, “Mr. President, I’m not sure what title this document carries, but it clearly relates to the budget for the state of emergency. I fully support the budget’s passage for second reading so the people of Rivers can feel the government’s impact.”

With no opposition raised, Senate President Godswill Akpabio passed the budget by voice vote and referred it to the Ad-hoc Committee responsible for overseeing the Rivers State of Emergency.
