Gary Neville has identified Liverpool as the “clear favorites” to win the Premier League this season, but he has cautioned the Reds to “watch out” for Arsenal in the title race.
Speaking on his Sky Sports podcast, the former Manchester United defender praised Liverpool’s dominant form.
Arne Slot’s side now sit four points clear at the top of the table at Christmas following a 6-3 win over Tottenham.
“Liverpool are clearly the best team in the Premier League at this moment in time,” Neville stated.
“They’re the clear favorites for the title. Man City’s drop-off has been spectacular, and Chelsea are doing well but dropped points against Everton.”
Neville, however, emphasized Arsenal as the team Liverpool should monitor closely.
The Gunners recently thrashed Crystal Palace 5-1 and remain within striking distance of the Reds.
“The one team Liverpool need to watch is Arsenal, especially if they close the gap heading into March and April,” Neville said.
Despite Liverpool’s impressive performances, Neville noted that injuries could derail their campaign.
“If they were to lose [Virgil] van Dijk and [Mohamed] Salah, it would hurt them. Van Dijk is like Rodri for Liverpool; he holds it all together. Keeping him fit is absolutely crucial,” he explained.
Liverpool, who have progressed to the Carabao Cup semi-finals and remain competitive in the Champions League, will resume their Premier League campaign on Boxing Day against Leicester City.
