NDELA Cautions Corps Members Against Illicit Drugs

The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDA) has cautioned 2024 Batch B Stream II Corps Members against the use of hard drugs which are very harmful to their wellbeing.
The Assistant Superintendent of Narcotics,Mr Joshua Peters who led the awareness lecture, described drug abuse as intake of illcit substances which can lead to destruction of life and destinies.
Mr.Peters defined drugs as substances used for medical treatment, distinguishing between legal and illegal varieties.
He however warned against the use of drugs like cocaine and tramadol, emphasizing their detrimental effects on mental and physical health. The NDLEA official also expressed that even legal drugs can be harmful if misused or taken without proper prescription.
Highlighting the progression of drug abuse from experimentation to addiction, Peters comprehensively related potential consequences including heart and lung diseases, brain damage, and in severe cases, death.
He stressed the importance of avoiding illicit substances and urged corps members to prioritize their health. The NDLEA official also addressed questions about helping individuals with addiction, recommending the Drug Demand Reduction Department (DDRD) for counseling and support.
According to him this educational initiative by the NDLEA demonstrates the ongoing efforts to combat drug abuse among Nigerian youth, particularly during their service year. By providing clear information and resources, the agency aims to empower corps members to make informed decisions about their health and well-being.
