Meta, the parent company of Facebook, has ramped up efforts to combat inauthentic behavior on its platforms, announcing the removal of more than 10 million fake profiles in the first half of 2025.

In addition, the company revealed it took down approximately 500,000 spam accounts within the same period. The crackdown is part of Meta’s broader initiative to curb impersonation, fake engagement, and content duplication—aimed at boosting authenticity and giving real creators more visibility.

“We’re making progress. In the first half of 2025, we took action on around 500,000 accounts engaged in spammy behaviour or fake engagement. We also removed about 10 million profiles impersonating large content producers,” Meta disclosed in a blog post.

The tech giant also warned that users who frequently repost or recycle content without proper permission or meaningful edits may face penalties, including reduced visibility and loss of access to monetization tools.
