Lagos NYSC Unveils 20 Wellness Ambassadors To Boost Corps Members Wellbeing

In a move to prioritize the mental well-being of Corps members, the Lagos State Ministry of Health, in conjunction with the NYSC, has unveiled the Wellness Ambassadors program.


The inauguration ceremony, which took place at the NYSC Orientation Camp in Iyana Ipaja, was graced by the Head of Mental Health Desk, Dr.Tolu Ajomale of the Ministry of Health,the State Coordinator, Camp Director and Head of Platoons.

During the event, Dr. Ajomale emphasized the importance of providing adequate mental health support to corps members, stressing that there can be no health without mental health.

He reassured the gathering that support is available for corps members experiencing depression, stress and other mental health challenges.

According to the Head of Platoon Councillors, Mrs.Debbie Uzoamaka Ogunrayewa, the Wellness Ambassadors program is an extension of the Platoon Counsellor initiative, aimed at enhancing the well-being of corps members.

The selection criteria for Wellness Ambassadors include being non-judgmental, maintaining confidentiality, being trustworthy and friendly, having a sense of humor, and demonstrating empathy.

The Wellness Ambassadors, comprising 20 corps members selected from each platoon, took an oath and signed a commitment to represent and look after the well-being of their fellow corps members.

Their primary role will be to identify individuals in need of emotional support within the camp environment and provide them with resources and guidance to seek assistance from trained counselors.

Corps members under the initiative equally have access to free mental health resources, free year-round mental and psychological support service which is the overall benefit of the program.
