Lagos Corps Member Empowers Students Through SDGs 4 and 10 Initiative

Favour Obeto, a serving corps member under the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area of Lagos State, has made a significant contribution to education and equality through a personal community development initiative aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 4 and 10 — Quality Education and Reduced Inequality.
Obeto, with NYSC code LA/24B/9036 and a member of the SDGs Special Community Development Service (CDS) group, donated 55 new school uniforms, three large 4×8 white marker boards, and a 15-inch Public Address System to students of Oshodi Comprehensive Senior and Junior High Schools.
She explained that her decision to carry out the project stemmed from a heartfelt interaction with students at the school. Despite their worn-out uniforms, Obeto was moved by their enthusiasm for learning. This prompted her to conduct a needs assessment and mobilize support to improve their learning environment.
Currently serving at Mopson Pharmaceutical Limited, Obeto credited several donors for making the project possible, including BEMJ International Educational Services, Abraham Ilukhor Foundation, Jehokel Construction Company, Mr. Gift A. Oboh, Mr. Innocent Omozokpia, and her Place of Primary Assignment, Mopson Pharmaceutical.
At the handover event, the Lagos State Coordinator of the NYSC, Mrs. Christianah Salmwang, represented by the Assistant Director of CDS, Mrs. Grace Oso, lauded the initiative. She noted that Community Development Service is one of the four key programs of the NYSC, aimed at encouraging corps members to contribute meaningfully to their host communities. She described Obeto’s efforts as exemplary and urged other corps members to emulate her dedication.

The Principal of Oshodi Comprehensive Senior High School, Mr. Oyemakin Felix, praised Obeto’s commitment and expressed gratitude for the positive impact on the school. He also recognized the Lagos State Government’s ongoing support for educational development.
One of the project’s sponsors, Mr. Jeremiah Etu, applauded Obeto for her consistency in community service, referencing her earlier “Pad a Girl” project in Edo State. He commended the NYSC for supporting such impactful initiatives.
Also speaking, Mrs. Mojisola Amodu, SDGs Schedule Officer, hailed Obeto’s resilience and passion, stating that her commitment reflects the essence of the global development agenda.
The event was well attended by NYSC officials, school principals, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders, including the Zonal Inspector of the Ikeja Zone, Mrs. Yewande Abimbola; NYSC LGI for Oshodi/Isolo, Mrs. Oyerinde Omolara; and other education advocates who applauded the project as a model of youth-driven impact.
