Peter Obi Raises Alarm Over ₦7 Trillion Budget Fraud, Calls Nigeria a “Crime Scene”

Presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has confirmed he will contest again in 2027 on the same party’s platform.

“I will still continue to run in the Labour Party. I’m a member of the Labour Party,” Obi said in a 7-minute, 16-second video shared on the party’s WhatsApp platform on Saturday, while speaking with a group of young supporters.

He claimed that the internal crises plaguing both the Labour Party and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) were orchestrated by the government.

“What is happening in the Labour Party and the PDP is caused by the government, quote me anywhere,” he declared. “These are deliberate problems caused by the system. These are some of the things I want to clean up if I have the opportunity.”

Recalling a past experience under late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua, Obi said: “Yar’Adua was the president. I went to him then; he called the INEC Chairman and told him, ‘I don’t want any problem in any party.’ We were forced to fix it.”

He emphasized the need for strong opposition, saying, “Parties will function very well because you can’t have a system working without a strong opposition.”

Urging voters to protect their votes, Obi stated: “Even if agents are paid by political parties to look after their interests, the ultimate decision about the people’s votes counting rests with the voters.”

He also appealed to Nigerian youths not to lose hope: “Don’t be discouraged. Positive change will be resisted by those who benefit from the old order.”

Speaking on political longevity, Obi added: “By 2027, I’ll be 65. I don’t want to be contesting for elections in my 70s. There should be a retirement age for politicians seeking office.”
