A senior lecturer at the Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Anambra State, Dr. Osita Fabian Chinedu, was tragically killed by gunmen suspected to be car snatchers on Monday night, December 16, 2024.
The incident occurred along the high tension area of Awka, the state capital, where the deceased lecturer had struggled with the assailants over his car before being shot dead.
According to reports, the gunmen had attempted to snatch Dr. Chinedu’s car, a Toyota Corolla 2006 model with an Enugu Plate number, UWN 158 AS, but he had resisted, leading to a struggle. Unfortunately, the lecturer was overpowered and shot dead by the gunmen, who then made away with his car.
The Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the incident and commenced investigations to arrest the killers. The command is urging eyewitnesses and members of the public to come forward with any useful information that can aid the investigation.
In a statement, the spokesperson of the State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said: “The command condoles the family members especially the management of Unizik and Calls on eyewitnesses/members of the public for information to aid the investigation.”
The statement further read: “The Anambra State Police Command has commenced investigations over the alleged murder of Mr Fabian Osita Chinedu. Information reveals that Mr Fabian, a staff of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka was allegedly shot by unidentified gÂ¥nmen yesterday 16th December, 2024 at 10.10 pm at Aroma Junction.”
The police are also asking anyone who might have seen the stolen car to report to the closest police station or call the command control room number – _07039194332
