The Federal Government has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honor of the late former President Muhammadu Buhari.

This announcement follows the earlier declaration of a seven-day national mourning period by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

According to a statement by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, the public holiday is meant to give Nigerians the opportunity to reflect on Buhari’s life, service, and enduring contributions to the nation’s unity, security, and democratic development.

Buhari, who passed away in London on Sunday, July 13, at the age of 82, served as Nigeria’s military Head of State from 1984 to 1985 and as a democratically elected president from 2015 to 2023.

During the mourning period, national flags are to be flown at half-mast, and government activities will be held in solemn observance of the late leader’s legacy.
