Felix Tshisekedi to be sworn in for a second term as Congo’s president
Felix Tshisekedi, the president of the Democratic Republic of Congo, is set to be sworn in for a second five-year term at the Martyrs sports stadium in Kinshasa.
The election, which saw over 40 million people registered to vote, came with allegations of fraud and an electoral hold-up. The archbishop of Kinshasa denounced the elections as a “gigantic organized mess” and called for protests.
His first swearing-in was in January 2019, after defeating Joseph Kabila.
The event took place in the gardens of the Palace of Nations, a solemn venue that has traditionally staged important official events.
He became president promising to improve living conditions in the DRC.
