Federal Ministry of Education Debunks Fake News on WAEC and NECO Cancellation

The Federal Ministry of Education has dismissed reports circulating online that claim the 2025 West African Examinations Council (WAEC) exams have been cancelled due to widespread malpractice.
In a press release issued on Saturday, July 20, the Ministry described the information as false, misleading, and designed to stir panic among students and the general public.
“The 2025 WAEC Examinations have been successfully concluded,” the statement read. “Only a few isolated incidents of malpractice were reported, all of which were promptly addressed by the relevant authorities.”
The Ministry also confirmed that the ongoing National Examinations Council (NECO) exams are proceeding smoothly, with no reported cases of malpractice as of the time of the release.
It stressed that no official communication or report of widespread malpractice has been received from WAEC, NECO, or any other examination body.
“The public is hereby urged to disregard the fake press release currently in circulation. It is entirely fabricated and intended to create unnecessary confusion,” the Ministry added.
Members of the public are encouraged to rely only on verified and credible sources for updates, including the official websites of the Ministry, WAEC, and NECO.
