FCT Police Reject ₦1.5M Bribe, Arrest Man for Attempt to Influence Kidnap Investigation

Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command have arrested a 40-year-old man, Yahaya Saleh, for allegedly attempting to bribe police officers with ₦1.5 million in an effort to secure the unlawful release of a kidnapping suspect currently under investigation.
In a statement issued on Wednesday by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the command disclosed that the arrest followed a covert operation by officers of the Command’s Scorpion Squad, who are investigating a kidnapping syndicate operating within the FCT and surrounding areas.
According to the statement, Saleh had approached investigators handling the case and offered the sum as an inducement to compromise the ongoing investigation. “Demonstrating professionalism, integrity, and unwavering commitment to justice, the officers promptly declined the offer and initiated necessary legal procedures, leading to Saleh’s immediate arrest,” SP Adeh stated.
The statement added that investigations are ongoing to identify and apprehend other members of the syndicate.
Commending the operatives involved, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Ajao S. Adewale, psc, mnips, praised the officers for their exemplary conduct. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to upholding justice and fighting corruption, emphasizing that any attempts to undermine police investigations would be met with swift and decisive action.
