Emefiele regains freedom, released from Kuje Prison
The embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has satisfied the conditions for his bail and was released from Kuje Prison on Friday.
The spokesperson for the Kuje Correctional Centre in the FCT, Adamu Duza, confirmed the development to newsmen on Saturday.
In July, the Federal Government filed a two-count charge of illegal possession of firearms and ammunition against Emefiele before the Federal High Court in Lagos.
Meanwhile, recent findings by an investigator on Emefiele’s management of the CBN, revealed unauthorised lodgments of £543,482,213 in fixed deposits in UK banks and billions of naira in 593 bank accounts in the US, China, and the UK without proper approval.
The reports also implicated him in the awarding of N61.5 billion for printing new naira notes to a UK company, De La Rue, contrary to President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive for domestic firms to handle the task.
