Embrace “SMART” Projects for Community Development – NYSC

The Head of Community Development Service, National Youth Service corps, Lagos state, Alhaji Wasiu Adebayo have urged Prospective Corps Members deployed to Lagos for the 2024 Batch “A” Stream II Orientation Course to engage in edifying and community-beneficial projects and employ the “SMART” when carrying out projects.

Alhaji Wasiu stated this  while delivering a Public lecture at the orientation camp, Iyana-ipaja Lagos.

According to him, the CDS as one of the four cardinal programmes of the NYSC is the area of the scheme by which a corps member can be recognized and awarded from the State Coordinator’s commendation, up to the Presidential Honours Award which come with some benefits.

He advised that when carrying out personal projects, projects must be Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Rewarding and Time-bound(SMART). 

Alhaji Adebayo who further explained on the SMART approach, said all projects must be defined, must be contestable and must be ready 3 months before Passing-out.

ABOUT NYSC CDS

Community Development Service (CDS) is one of the four (4) Cardinal Programmes of NYSC in which corps members contribute positively to the development of their host communities throughout the period of national service. It is worthwhile mentioning that since its inception in 1973, the National Youth Service Corps has been making great contributions in the social, political and economic transformation of the nation.

In recent times, the scheme has been in the vanguard of the nation’s drive to correct the imbalance in our rural-urban development through the various community development programmes executed by corps members.

These programmes have revolutionized our communities in the areas of education, health care delivery, agriculture, communication, infrastructure, technology, economic empowerment, poverty eradication, social services and above all national consciousness and sociocultural regeneration.
