EFCC arrests, detains 10 Lagos operatives
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has detained 10 officers from its Lagos Zonal Command over allegations of theft involving missing operational items.
In a statement released in Abuja on Wednesday, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale confirmed the arrests, highlighting that they are part of ongoing reforms led by Chairman Ola Olukoyede to eradicate corruption within the agency.
According to Oyewale, the officers were taken into custody last week following directives from the chairman. “These officers are being investigated for their failure to account for certain operational items. Significant progress has been made in the investigation, and any officer found guilty will face internal disciplinary measures,” he said.
According to reports, this comes shortly after the EFCC announced on Monday the dismissal of 27 officers implicated in fraudulent activities and misconduct in 2024.
Oyewale stated that the dismissals were based on recommendations from the commission’s staff disciplinary committee and were subsequently approved by the chairman.
Chairman Olukoyede reaffirmed the EFCC’s commitment to a zero-tolerance stance on corruption, emphasizing that no staff member, regardless of rank, would be shielded from disciplinary action.
