Don’t Judge Tompolo Based on Allegations, Says EFCC Chairman Olukoyede

The Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ola Olukoyede, has cautioned Nigerians against rushing to condemn ex-militant leader, Chief Government Ekpemupolo, popularly known as Tompolo, over a recent allegation of naira abuse.

This comes in the wake of a viral video showing Tompolo dancing at his 54th birthday celebration while someone sprayed ₦1,000 notes on him — an act many believe violates the Central Bank’s policy on currency abuse.

The footage sparked public outrage, with some accusing the EFCC of selective prosecution and daring the agency to arrest Tompolo to prove its neutrality.

Reacting during a TVC interview on Sunday, Olukoyede confirmed that Tompolo has been invited for questioning, stressing that the case is under investigation and no conclusion should be drawn yet.

“We have invited Tompolo — that is public knowledge,” he said. “Nobody is above the law, but let’s not rush to judgment. It’s still an allegation.”

He added that the video in question is being subjected to forensic scrutiny, raising the possibility that the footage might have been altered.

“In today’s world, videos can be manipulated. That’s why we’re analyzing it thoroughly,” Olukoyede noted. “Until the investigation is concluded, we cannot declare anyone guilty. Everyone deserves fair hearing and the benefit of the doubt.”
