A chilling case of attempted murder and fake kidnapping has rattled Delta State after a female student from the Delta State University of Science and Technology, Ozoro, was stabbed multiple times by a male acquaintance inside the school auditorium.

Delta State Police spokesperson, SP Edafe Bright, disclosed the disturbing details in an interview. According to him, the suspect lured the young woman to the auditorium under false pretenses. Once she arrived, he launched a brutal attack.

“This girl, on that fateful day, went to see him at that auditorium. Whatever conversation they had, the suspect stabbed this girl twice on her neck and stabbed her also in the chest region,” SP Edafe said.

Believing she had died, the suspect then used her phone to contact her father, falsely claiming she had been kidnapped. He demanded a ransom of two million naira for her release.

“He took the girl’s phone and called her father that the girl has been kidnapped and a ransom of N2 million should be sent for the girl to regain her freedom,” Edafe explained.

But the suspect’s plan fell apart when the critically injured student, though unconscious, managed to whisper his name.

“Unfortunately for him, he never knew the poor girl did not die. While she was still unconscious, she was able to mention the name of the friend whom she went to see that attempted to murder her,” Edafe said.

Acting on this crucial lead, the school authorities quickly initiated a search and summoned the suspect. He was promptly arrested and taken into custody.

“It is good news that the poor girl did not die,” SP Edafe added.
