The Representative of the National Blood Service Commission, Mrs Temitope Balogun, has enlightened corps members of the 2024 Batch ‘B’ Stream 2 in Iyana-Ipaja Camp on the significance of voluntary blood donation and the benefits it offers both donors and recipients.
Mrs. Temitope explained that blood donation is a selfless act that saves lives, especially in cases of accidents, illnesses like sickle cell, emergencies requiring blood transfusion and cancer.
She stressed that individuals less than 18years and weighing below 60kg are not eligible to donate blood. She explained further that before donating, potential donors go through a series of screening processes to assess their blood pressure, hemoglobin levels and overall health condition.
She emphasized the numerous benefits of blood donation, which include a reduced risk of cancer, improved liver and kidney health, saving lives, and a sense of fulfillment.
Mrs. Balogun therefore encouraged corps members to consider donating blood and to spread awareness about the importance of this life-saving procedure
