Chinedu Onah’s 39th Birthday and the journey so far

According to Williams Shakespeare, he posits that some are born great, while some achieve greatness by dint of hard work. This dictum succinctly defines the rise and greatness of a 21st-century grassroots lawmaker, Rt Hon Chinedu Ogba Onah, Member Representing Ohaukwu South Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly and Deputy Speaker of the the 7th Assembly.

Rt Hon Onah Chinedu was born on 1st August 1985 into the Christian and idyllic family of PA Onah Igboke of Abarigwe of Umuogudu Oshia Ngbo, Ohaukwu Local Government Area, Ebonyi State.

Like it’s said that a male fowl is spotted from the egg, Hon Chinedu Onah spotted himself as a great man, hence embraced God from his childhood and dedicated his life to things of God which has been the compass that guided his life till date.

The Peak of Ohaukwu as he is fondly called started his Primary School Education at Abarigwe Primary School Umuogudu Oshia Ngbo. Upon bagging their First Leaving Certificate in 1994, he proceeded to Wesley Secondary School, Izhiangbo where he distinguished himself among his equals and was given Senior Prefect of the School based on his brilliance and humility.

Humility personified Hon Chinedu Onah upon completion of his Secondary School gained admission to Ebonyi State University, Abakaliki where he studied Mass Communication between 2003-2007 and graduated with Second Class (Upper Division). Subsequently, in his quest for more knowledge, he bagged a master’s Degree in the same institution/discipline in 2021. While in school, he was appointed as Class Rep on merit and later elected as Faculty President of the defunct Faculty of Arts in 2006. Due to his unique character which made him exceptionally different from his peers, he was elected as the President of the Umuogudu Oshia Undergraduates Association in the year, 2004 where he made an indelible mark in championing the course of the Students without compromise. While serving his fatherland at Adamawa State in 2010, he was elected as the President of, the Nigeria Christian Corps Fellowship (NCCF). A position he handled excellently and was greeted with Awards for his meritorious service and quintessential character.

Upon his return to Ebonyi State after the compulsory clarion call, he became the General Manager, of Widows Care Foundation, Abakaliki, and held the position from 2010-2015.

The simplicity, honesty, hard work, charity, commitment to the affairs of God, and intellectual prowess of Hon Chinedu Ogba Onah spurred Prof John Ubochi Eke, former Commissioner for Education to appoint him as his Personal Assistant in 2015. As a PA, he was dedicated to his duty and didn’t raise his shoulders high like some of his contemporaries do when they kiss kegs of power. He was using his earnings for charity work which made the youths of Ohaukwu South Constituency rise unanimously in one voice and present him to contest for the House of Assembly position against the incumbent then. The struggle created tension in Ohaukwu such that both youths, women, men, and children who cherish the character of Hon Chinedu Ogba Onah vowed that he must represent them against all odds. Despite the intrigues, skirmishes, and challenges, the wishes of the masses prevailed and he was offered a PDP ticket as the House of Assembly Candidate for Ohaukwu South Constituency in 2018. In March 2019, he was massively voted and elected to represent the good and hardworking people of Ohaukwu South Constituency in the Ebonyi State House of Assembly. His emergence changed the status in Ohaukwu politics as he made himself a sacrificial lamb. He was appointed as House Chairman Committee on Public Account, among other Committees in the House which Chairman, Co-Chairman, or member. Among those who represented Ohaukwu Constituency, he is adjudged the best considering his closeness to the constituents, humility, humanitarian services, and inclusiveness. In 2023, he was reelected for the second term under the platform of All Progressive Congress APC, to represent Ohaukwu South Constituency. To the Glory of God, he was elected by his colleagues as the Deputy Speaker, Ebonyi State House of Assembly today 13th June 2023.

Like Jim Smart rightly said that it’s wrong to abort one’s talent, Hon Chinedu Ogba Onah discovered his talent in music and didn’t abort it. He delved into music with commitment and carved a niche for himself. Today, he has numerous melodious gospel music to his credit with a chain of loyalists he groomed in music who are doing well in the music industry today. To date, once he grabs a microphone, the atmosphere is always charged. His voice is captivating and enlarges hope spiritually. As a musician, his colleagues love him so much because of his lifestyle which is anchored on humility and generosity. He was the Secretary, of the Performing Musicians Association Ebonyi State Chapter and subsequently, Southeast Coordinator of, the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria.

As a result of his commitment and contribution to the growth of the Church, he was elected as the Steward, of Bethel Methodist Church, Abarigwe Umuogudu Oshia Ngbo in 2014 as well as the Patron, of Methodist Youth Fellowship, Diocese of Ngbo to date.

Rt Hon Chinedu Onah is a renowned philanthropist, mobilizer, embodiment of wisdom, unassuming, a devoted Christian, and a resolute believer in unity, and peace as tools for development.

Rt Hon Chinedu Onah believes that he is just a pencil in the hand of his creator, hence ascribing his journey of life to the divine manifestation of Grace and mercy that makes an ordinary man extraordinary.

He has received more than 60 Awards from different reputable sociopolitical and religious organizations in recognition of his humanitarian services, good representation, and contribution to society.

Rt Hon Chinedu Ogba Onah was elected as the Deputy Speaker of the 7th Assembly on the 12th June 2023.

He is married to a beautiful woman, Mrs Onah Kelechukwu Treasure with a kid.
