CAC Defends New Portal Amid Claims It Approved Names Linked to Terrorism and Crime

The Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) has issued a public notice debunking reports that its newly upgraded Intelligent Company Registration Portal (ICRP) is approving names linked to terrorism, crime, and other prohibited categories.
The clarification follows a report published by Asiwaju Media, which detailed allegations circulating among legal and business professionals that the new CAC system had allowed sensitive and disallowed names to be reserved in violation of the Companies and Allied Matters Act (CAMA). The report cited examples shared online by individuals who tested the platform and claimed it returned approvals for controversial names, sparking concern and debate on social media.
In its statement released Tuesday, the CAC emphasized that the ICRP is an artificial intelligence-powered platform still in its learning and development phase. The Commission explained that the system is designed to continuously adapt and improve with every user interaction.
“The ICRP is an AI-driven system, and like all modern artificial intelligence, it is learning, adapting, and evolving with every interaction. It is not static—it is getting smarter by the day,” the CAC said.
The Commission alleged that some individuals were deliberately attempting to manipulate the system by circumventing its smart filters in order to discredit the platform and portray it as flawed.
“We urge the public not to fall for those intentionally trying to manipulate the process with a view to undermine our progress,” the notice read. “Let’s work together to build a system that works for all.”
While acknowledging that genuine feedback is essential to improving the platform, the CAC cautioned against sensational narratives and misinformation that could erode confidence in its efforts to modernize company registration.
The Intelligent Company Registration Portal (ICRP 3.0), introduced as part of CAC’s digital transformation program, aims to deliver faster, more convenient, and fully compliant company name reservations and incorporation processes. However, the recent reports and social media reactions have raised questions about its readiness and safeguards.
The Commission reassured the public and stakeholders that enhancements are ongoing and that the AI system will soon deliver an even more intuitive and robust registration experience for all users.
