Buhari Dies At £3,500-Per-Day Luxury UK Hospital Weeks After Admission

A new report has revealed that former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari was among patients at The London Clinic, one of the United Kingdom’s most prestigious private hospitals, where intensive care can cost up to £3,500 per day.
Located on Harley Street in central London, The London Clinic is a top destination for wealthy individuals seeking discreet and world-class medical treatment. Standard rooms at the facility range from £1,000 to £1,800 per night, while VIP suites go as high as £2,500. Consultations typically cost between £100 and £750, with major surgeries starting at £13,000.
It was at this hospital that Buhari died on Sunday, July 13, 2025.
Sources say the former president had flown to the UK in April for what was described as a routine check-up, but his condition worsened over time, leading to his admission into the intensive care unit.
His nephew, Mamman Daura, disclosed that Buhari was in high spirits the night before he passed and was even preparing for discharge. But on Sunday afternoon, he developed breathing difficulties. Despite efforts to stabilize him, he died around 4:30 p.m.
Buhari’s death was later confirmed in a brief statement by his former spokesperson, Garba Shehu. Though the exact cause of death remains undisclosed, the late president had battled health issues for years.
Established in 1932, The London Clinic treats over 120,000 patients annually and is known for its expertise in cancer care, orthopaedics, gastrointestinal surgery, robotic procedures, and intensive care. The hospital is equipped with 13 ICU beds, 10 operating theatres, and five Macmillan Cancer Support Centres.
Its advanced medical technologies include robotic surgical systems like the da Vinci Xi, state-of-the-art MRI and CT scanners, and digital diagnostic platforms. Over 900 consultants, many affiliated with the Royal College of Surgeons, serve at the hospital.
The facility is frequently used by global elites—ranging from foreign dignitaries to royalty. Nigerian medical professionals familiar with the hospital confirm its status as a preferred destination for high-ranking officials and politicians.
Former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, was also reportedly treated at the clinic before being discharged.
In the wake of Buhari’s passing, several videos surfaced showing his family members visiting the hospital. Although the full length of his stay has not been confirmed, sources indicate that he spent his final days in the ICU.
