Benue Governor Uncovers 4,000 Substandard Schools, Recruits Nearly 10,000 Qualified Teachers

Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has revealed the discovery of over 4,000 substandard “mushroom” schools across the state, describing them as lacking both proper learning environments and qualified teachers.
Speaking through his Chief Press Secretary, Kula Tersoo, during a press briefing on Thursday, the governor highlighted strides made in the education sector over the past two years. While he did not disclose the government’s immediate plans regarding the mushroom schools, he noted that 9,700 qualified teachers have been newly recruited into public primary schools.
Alia also announced that the government had paid the exam fees for around 19,000 students who participated in the 2023/2024 WAEC, NECO, and NABTEB exams.
Additionally, the administration has cleared 38 months’ worth of outstanding earned allowances owed to staff of the state-owned Moses Adasu University, formerly Benue State University.
